Are Dragons Real?

“Were there any dragons discovered yesterday?” my children ask daily.

“Not that I know of…” I say, sometimes searching the news to be sure.

They used to ask me if dragons were real.

I would say, “If they are, they have not yet been discovered.”

Which mythological creatures do you wish were real?

  1. Just so you know, Sarah. I love this. Truly. This is great! I will have to remember that reply, in case any future children share the same sense of wonder and creativity of thought.

  2. In response to Twitter Post: Which mythological creatures do you wish were real?

I wish Gruffalos, and Sasquatches were real. Then I would become a regular Jacques Cousteau in my inquisition of their species.

  3. Fairies… flower fairies and woodland fairies… When we were driving through woods last week, it was perfect for woodland sprites and I told the boys to keep an eye open for African fairies. They rolled their eyes.

But this reminds me of a conversation I heard reported about CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien, in short, “But wouldn’t it be lovely if it were real?”

I think dragons and fairies and mythology have a place in widening our imagination, in seeing the world, fallen, and yet with a glimpse of God’s restoration. ..

Not to over-spiritualize fairies, but I really do believe they have their place.
